  1. Have we — as a modern people — in Western society — have we forgotten what it means to be nude, such as illustrated in the memorable sepia toned photos that Tony Sand has placed on his Sandblog Website?

There is a real joy in nudity that has little to do with blatant sexuality, but it seems nowadays that the advertsing people tend to pander to: If it’s nude, it must sell — nudity, to us, equals “sex sales” — when it doesn’t have to.

What happened to nude swimming — once allowed in Men Only Clubs? Now there are no such clubs. Or, nude sunbathing in the U.S.?

It’s sad that nudity tends to be viewed as a criminal act — at worst — and — at “best” some sort of depravity. Too bad. It seems that showering in the nude is acceptable, as is nude bathing– but heaven forbid we should shower or bathe with others, as was acceptable in some Scandanavian Countries and in pre-World War II Japan among entire families.

Is there such a thing as “nude-a-phobia”? One of my favorite buttons reads, “If I can’t do it naked, it’s not worth doing,” and — short of fighting forest fires, or eliminating toxic chemical spills, I’m going to concur. Tony Sand, thank you for your website, and — “Long may it wave” — maybe one of our premiere inalienable human rights is: To be Naked.
